The cuisine of the south uses many herbs and spices and has been influenced by Cambodia, Thailand and India, among others. Curries using coconut milk are an example of this influence. The south also has a wide selection of tropical fruits and vegetables that are not readily available in the cooler north.


During a morning course, you will have have the opportunity to: learn a selection of favorite dishes; recognize the basic ingredients both at the Center; enjoy a trip to the colourful central food market; learn about the blending of these many ingredients and spices to create the famous "nuoc mam" (fish sauce) and multitude of different rices. Apart from the preparation and cooking under our Chef's guidance, you will be introduced to the traditional Vietnamese kitchen with cooking utensils still closely linked to the Vietnamese way of life in the past. You will learn a bit of oriental science regarding the Yin-Yang balance, some history of Vietnamese cuisine from its roots in the Hue Citadel Imperial Cuisine to the effects of various influences from both the West and other Eastern Cultures. Finally, you will understand the intricacies of Vietnamese dining etiquette and the technique to master eating with chopsticks!

 You could attend our Morning Course (from 9:30 am to 1 pm, including Lunch), or our Afternoon Course (from 4 pm to 7:30 pm, including Dinner). Tour cost includes of private pick up, drop off services, cooking arrangment, cooking demonstration, English Speaking Guide, Meal)
